Project Overview
Oomiak has just completed the refrigeration and hot water generation installation of a new packaging and export distribution centre for Montagues. Montagues is a leader in fresh produce and is one of Australia’s largest fruit growers.
Their new fruit processing facility features Australia’s first optical sorting equipment and horticulture’s first fully automated high bay storage facility.
The 18,000 square metre facility has the capacity to process in excess of 34 million kilograms of fresh fruit product annually to markets across Australia and the world.
Oomiak’s work included the design and installation of a refrigeration systems to support the various processing and storage rooms with temperatures as low as 1°C. This included an ammonia based chiller refrigeration plant operating alongside a CO2 heat pump package to provide the total glycol cooling and hot water heating requirements of the facility.
The heat pump is the largest capacity CO2 heat pump in the Southern Hemisphere.
Secondary systems included multi point CO2 detection and ventilation system in the ASRS high bay facility and an indirect cooling fresh air fan system for the production facility.
Key objectives for the project included;
- Reliably service both chilling and heating loads during production and non-production periods
- Reliable and energy efficient design
- Long life and low servicing costs
- High humidity within storage rooms
Oomiak’s expert skills were critical to ensuring the project was delivered on time and to budget.
