Project Overview
The Melbourne Market Relocation Project involved the chilling of more than 150 tenancies at the new Melbourne Wholesale Fruit, Vegetable and Flower Centre built in Epping, Victoria.
Managed by the Victorian State Government, the development of the new Epping site and relocation of the Market has been one of the largest infrastructure projects in Victoria.
The huge 70-hectare Epping site offers over 100,000 square meters of warehousing space which makes it the largest warehousing precinct at any central market in Australia.
Oomiak’s role in the project was through the design, installation and commissioning of the massive centralised refrigeration system. Oomiak undertook a detailed and thorough engineering process to provide an alternative centralised refrigeration system that would meet the requirements of all tenants for cooling and air conditioning.
Refrigeration Statistics
- Number of potential customers – 180+
- Potential plant cooling capacity – 14,400 kW
- Expected reduction in power consumed – 30%
Following on from our work on the Central Refrigeration Plant Oomiak also provided individual tenancy side refrigeration at the Epping site. Contracted separately by Schiavello and the Costa Group, Oomiak was able to design, install and commission more than 20 tenancy refrigeration skids.
