Project Overview
Oomiak was contracted by Clarke Energy to supply, fabricate and commission a Main Gas Conditioning Unit (GCU) for the German Creek Power Station.
The German Creek coal mine methane power generation project is at Anglo Coal’s German Creek coal mine in the Bowen Basin in central Queensland. The plant is located close to the underground mine to utilise gas from mining operations. Coal mine methane occurs naturally and needs to be extracted as it poses a major safety hazard in underground mines, it is however a valuable source of energy for power generation.
The GCU is designed to dehydrate methane gas exiting gas scrubbers from new and existing gas engines. The unit comprises a spiral heat exchanger served by two air cooled chiller packages and associated thermal storage and reticulation system. The GCU removes moisture by cooling down the gas below its saturation point and separating out condensate.
The two chiller packages are positioned alongside the tank and pump skid which comprises a chilled water thermal storage tank and primary and secondary circuit pumps and is designed to circulate chilled water at a constant flow variable temperature to the GCU.
