The Oomiak Crew is filled to the brim with enthusiastic, experienced, and skilled people – we thought it was time to share that. This first blog features Chantelle Mares, a third-year refrigeration apprentice working in our Customer Support team in NSW.
My Role in Oomiak
Working as an apprentice in Oomiak’s NSW Customer Support team has seen Chantelle take a hands-on approach to field repairs, maintenance and commissioning of our customers sites.
Chantelle has also had her hand in multiple major capital projects – some of these include big name companies across NSW and South Australia.
Best Thing About Working at Oomiak
“I love that not every day is the same and that I get to work with different people across different areas of the business, even across different states. I also enjoy learning new things every day,” says Chantelle.
My Career Tips
Chantelle, brings with her three tips with her amid every interaction that sees her able to absorb learnings at every point and turn – these include:
- Ask lots of questions – there’s no such thing as a silly question
- Be a sponge and absorb as much information from everyone – everyone you work with has different strengths and has worked on different equipment in their time, listen and learn
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you’re stuck with something
When asked what her most impactful learning has been, Chantelle offered: that there’s often more than one way to do something. Learn all the different ways and come up with the best way to complete the task at hand.
Drawing closer to the end of her apprenticeship, Chantelle is keen to finish her TAFE subjects this year and tackle the capstone exams in 2023.
Outside of Work
Outside of work, Chantelle keeps busy with her social life, animals, and nature:
“I love spending time with my dogs Mack & Ellie and helping my partner look after his reptiles. I also enjoy listening to music and going to shows with my friends and looking after my ever-growing collection of house plants,” said Chantelle.
